🔹 What is Carers Week?
Carers Week is held every June to:
- Recognise and celebrate the vital contributions of unpaid carers.
- Raise public awareness about the challenges they face.
- Encourage self-identification among hidden carers who might not realise they’re eligible for support.
- Promote better support and policies from governments, employers, health services, and society.
🔹 Who is an unpaid carer?
Anyone who:
- Looks after someone who couldn’t cope without their help.
- Provides physical, emotional, or practical support.
- May not be receiving financial compensation for their care.
🔹 Why it matters:
- There are an estimated 5.7 million unpaid carers in the UK.
- Many carers face isolation, financial hardship, and burnout.
- Nearly half do not realise they are carers and miss out on essential support services, benefits, or employment rights.
🔹 How to get involved:
- Organise or attend local events.
- Share stories on social media with #CarersWeek.
- Pledge support through the official Carers Week website.
- Encourage carers to access advice, respite services, and community support.
