🔹 What is Carers Week?

Carers Week is held every June to:

  • Recognise and celebrate the vital contributions of unpaid carers.
  • Raise public awareness about the challenges they face.
  • Encourage self-identification among hidden carers who might not realise they’re eligible for support.
  • Promote better support and policies from governments, employers, health services, and society.

🔹 Who is an unpaid carer?

Anyone who:

  • Looks after someone who couldn’t cope without their help.
  • Provides physical, emotional, or practical support.
  • May not be receiving financial compensation for their care.

🔹 Why it matters:

  • There are an estimated 5.7 million unpaid carers in the UK.
  • Many carers face isolation, financial hardship, and burnout.
  • Nearly half do not realise they are carers and miss out on essential support services, benefits, or employment rights.

🔹 How to get involved:

  • Organise or attend local events.
  • Share stories on social media with #CarersWeek.
  • Pledge support through the official Carers Week website.
  • Encourage carers to access advice, respite services, and community support.
